Before leaving federal service (or switching agencies/positions), a federal employee should download their entire electronic Official Personnel File (eOPF). Employees will NOT have access to this document once they leave their position.
Below are the steps to download the ENTIRE file in a few clicks once you are logged into the correct eOPF portal for your agency:
1. Click “My eOPF” tab on the sidebar
2. Click “My eOPF Print Folder” tab at the top
3. Check “Select All”
4. Click one of the two print buttons.
5. Click “My eOPF Print Status” tab at the top
6. Wait for print request to process (this can take a while if you have a big file)
7. While waiting, read the instructions describing what the password will be for your document and write the password down in a safe place
8. When it appears, click “View” in the “Action” box
9. Save as PDF
10. Open PDF in Adobe and enter password
Now that you have your entire eOPF in PDF form, you may decide to organize the pages to be able to find things easily.
As a reminder, you must do this before you leave
You should be doing this before you leave any position in order to ensure you've got any documentation you may need without waiting for systems to update or transfer you over.
These records are important to ensure your leave amounts and service computation dates are correct ASAP when transferring to a new position. You'll also need these documents if you're leaving the federal government to ensure that any benefits are properly paid out and/or you can support future applications for federal employment.
