Federal employees who retire from federal service with unused sick leave may get that service credited toward their CSRS or FERS pension.

If you have LESS THAN 2,087 hours of sick leave when you retire:
Take your sick leave balance and find it on the chart. If you don’t find your number exactly, round up to the next number. Once you locate your number, go up and over to determine the months and days that those hours equate to. For instance, if you had 1,672 hours, you would round up to 1,675. Locating that number on the chart, you would find this equates to 9 months and 19 days. Therefore, 9 months and 19 days would be added to the creditable service you have to determine your pension.
If you have MORE THAN 2,087 hours of sick leave when you retire:
Subtract 2,087 from your current balance and follow the steps above. For instance, if you had 3,759 hours, we would subtract 2,087 hours (which is a full year of work) and we’d be left with 1,672 hours (just like in the example above). Therefore, 1 year, 9 months and 19 days would be added to the creditable service you have to determine your pension.
